My 1/6th Pak38

Postby pzrwest on Mon Jun 15, 2009 2:26 pm

I got a great deal on the DML Pak38 combo set at the Toronto show on the weekend. After assembleing it I didn't like how the wheels just slide on and nothing to keep them from falling off when you move it. Short of glueing the wheels on was the only way to keep them from falling off and that prevents the wheels from turning. So I figured there had to be a way to keep the wheels from falling yet still allow them to turn. So after looking over how the wheels were assembled I carefully popped the rear section of the wheel off useing a nice wide thin butter knife. I then measured how much I had to remove from the inside of the part the axel stub fit into. Then I cut 2 discs measureing 3/4" diameter and drilled a center hole in the disc and the end of the axel stub. After smoothing out the cut on the boss I found I needed a couple shims between the disc and the boss. I pre threadted the axel stub for screws then put the inner wheel half on the stub and screwed the disc and shims to the end of the axel stub. Then it was just a matter of re-glueing the outter wheel section back on to the rear section and clamp and wait for the glue to set. Thank god the glue person on the assembly line wasn't heavy with glueing the wheels together at the factory. Here are a few pics of the modification. Opinions welcomed.... Harold

Looks great harold. The PAK is a fun weapon...really easy to move.

Thank you. I'm adding the handle to the arm that operates the breach block which DML has forgot to install. And hopefully today I will be ordering a 1/6th 250 halftrack kit to haul this baby around with

cool...can't wait for the finished project...I wanted a PAK gun for my FJ squad, but this hobby is too expensive.

Well it is for me too, but at the show they had this combo unit, and because the box had a damaged corner and one minor part had broken off(which I glued back in place with 2 tiny dabs of styrene glue) it was reduced in price from $250.00Cdn to $141.00Cdn and with tax it came to $160.00 I couldn't pass it up, and grabbed it up before someone else did. We pay 13% in sales tax(PST&GST) here. The figure that came with it wasn't one of the $34.00US "value" figures either.

You got a really good deal there. Again i'd love the PAK38 but space & cost restricts me.
Plus i got the PAK36 kit when it first game out & i STILL haven't finished it!!!!

Update:
Here are a couple pics of the handle added to the breach opening lever. Other than adding the handle not much needs to be done to the gun other than some stains and mud etc. Yes I know what you mean by space needed, with the trailing arms extended it does take up alot of space. As I said at that price I just had to grab it up as a deal like that doesn't come along very often. Since I'm not a "Collector" a damaged box is a minor thing not even worth worrying about.......... Here is the piece that was broken off the gun... Since glued back on you would never know it had been broken
